To be eligible for membership, a family must have a child or youth under the age of 18, who has an identified developmental delay.

Different programs may have different eligibility criteria; please contact the office directly for more details.

Your information will be passed on to a coordinator who will be in touch with you to arrange a first meeting.

There is an annual administration fee of $40/family.

Events have a subsidised cost associated with each activity.

My child’s just 2 years old, can I still apply for membership?

Yes. This is an age when you can start to build community connections and learn about resources available to you in your community. While your child may be too young to participate in group activities (ages 8+ years), you may be eligible to access other support services.

how do you screen volunteers?

We are committed to providing a safe space for our members, staff, and volunteers.

Every volunteer is required to complete an application form, participate in an in-person interview, provide three references and a vulnerable sector clearance document. Once this has been completed, volunteers are required to complete the following training:

EAF Orientation, WHIMIS, Diversity and Inclusion Training, and Understanding Different Diagnosis, and are encouraged to learn from our current staff and volunteers.

Do you have a wait list?

We pride ourselves on not having a waitlist for family applications, however, some specific programs may have an attendee waitlist.

I’m Involved with other service agencies, can I still complete an application?

Yes. We are not a service agency, we are a non-profit support agency.

What happens when my son/daughter ages out of the program?

Unfortunately Hamilton & District Extend-A-Family can only offer support up to the age of 18. We understand that this transition can be difficult, and provide a number of alternative resources for youth 18+ to continue to connect and receive support.

How do I apply to become a volunteer?

You can complete the volunteer application form the website. Once your application is processed a coordinator will be in touch with you to discuss the volunteer position.

I’m a high school student. Can I volunteer with Extend-A-Family?
